We are delighted to host our second Rigdzin Düpa Drubchen at PPI this year, with Jigme Rinpoche serving as Vajra Master. Chagdud Khadro, Lama Padma Gyatso and Lama Sherab Dromla will also be in attendance. A drubchen (‘great accomplishment’) consists of 8-10 days of practice as a group, and when undertaken with altruistic motivation is traditionally considered to bring considerable benefits, such as reducing mental afflictions, restoring broken spiritual commitments, and establishing auspicious conditions for peace, harmony and further spiritual progress — both for oneself and on a much broader scale. Guru Rinpoche said that anyone who sincerely engages in a drubchen will gain the same benefits as practising for three years in a solitary retreat.
The Rigdzin Düpa sadhana belongs to the Longchen Nyingthig (Heart Essence of the Great Expanse) cycle, which relates primarily to the teachings of Dzogchen. This cycle was bestowed upon Jigme Lingpa (1729-1798) through a series of three visions he had of the great master Longchen Rabjampa (1308-1363), and was soon propagated throughout Tibet, becoming one of the most influential lineages of the Nyingma tradition that continues to this day.

His Eminence Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche received transmission of the Longchen Nyingthig cycle from both Khenpo Dorje and Tromge Tulku Arig, and practised it extensively during the years that he lived and traveled in Asia, while Jigme Tromge Rinpoche in turn received the transmission from his father Chagdud Rinpoche and from Khenpo Ngagchung.
The Rigdzin Düpa itself forms the Inner Guru practice (of the Outer, Inner, Secret and Innermost Secret Guru practices) of the Peaceful Male Vidyadhara sadhanas. Jigme Rinpoche has held the Rigdzin Düpa sadhana for the basis of the annual one-month Dzogchen retreat in Brazil, and it has been practised as a 100,000 tsog offerings retreat by Ati Ling for about ten years. In 2004 we were honored to have His Eminence Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche bestow the empowerment and lead the retreat for the first time at PPI.
Empowerment is required to attend the retreat and will be offered on the first day of the retreat
ATTENDANCE: Partial attendance is possible, but you MUST notify us before July 6th to ensure that you are within the boundaries list, otherwise you will not be able to participate. TIME: The retreat will begin on Wednesday afternoon and end on Thursday morning.
COSTS: Prices for the whole retreat include accommodations as selected, and three meals a day. Meals will be simple, vegetarian dishes with gluten-free and dairy-free options per advance request. Prices go up $75 after June 29th!

THE DEATH CEREMONY
The traditional ceremony for the dead will be performed during the Rigdzin Dupa drubchen. The ceremony benefits the deceased, wherever they may be wandering after death or wherever they may have been reborn, by invoking their consciousness and reducing their fear and suffering. During the stages of the ceremony, the consciousness is given focus, clarity and direction, and the habitual propensities toward unsatisfactory rebirths are purified. Then, by closing the doors to all possible suffering states of samsara, the consciousness is liberated directly into the pure realm. At the conclusion of the ritual, the name of the deceased is incinerated, marking the end of their fetters to samsara. You are invited to submit the names of any deceased relative, friend or pet to be included in this ceremony, which will take place in a few days. Please email the being’s details to events@atiling.org indicating their full name, dates of birth and death, and a photo if you wish. Customarily, you would make a donation on behalf of the deceased to support this ceremony — this offering can be made by clicking on the link and selecting ‘Tsog Offering’ from the pull-down menu. TSOG OR BUTTERLAMP OFFERINGS
During intensive practice retreats, we make offerings of tsog and butterlamps. Tsog is a most profound method of purification and for gaining realization. Offering tsog and butterlamps are said to be two of the most effective ways for accumulating merit through generosity, and it is particularly beneficial to make such offerings as a way to strengthen present and future connections with true masters and lineages. All dedications will be read during the pujas. Those who are unable to attend retreat but would still like to make offerings are also welcome to do so. Butterlamps are $1.50 each; tsog offerings can be in any amount.
