Passing of Lama Padma Dorje

(Jeffery Miller)

Jeffrey William Miller, Lama Padma Dorje, passed away on April 13, 2026, in Cottage Grove, Oregon, at the age of 74. Lama Dorje was an early student of H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, and carried the lineages of lama dancing which Rinpoche had taught to his western students. Along with his wife, Lama Trinley (Maile Wall), Lama Dorje provided instruction and facilitated a connection to the sacred practice of Lama Dancing for students of Chagdud Gonpa helping to train many of the individuals who carry on these sacred practices today.

Lama Dorje was also on the Padma Translation Committee for Padma Publishing and helped to sponsor the translating and publishing of Longchenpa’s Seven Treasuries into English, a project of supreme aspiration from H.E. Chagdud Rinpoche. The translation of Longchenpa’s Seven Treasuries has proved an invaluable gift for many western students interested in studying the Dzogchen teachings. After being ordained in 1996 as a lama, Lama Dorje then served with Lama Trinley as the resident Lamas of Dechen Ling in Cottage Grove, Oregon, guiding students with humility, compassion and deep care.

Lama Trinley preceded Lama Dorje in death, having passed in 2020. They are both deeply missed and we aspire that their activities can continue to benefit beings far beyond their most recent lives. Our sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers are with their living immediate family members.

Lama Dorje lived a life of devotion, selfless service, and fortitude. He freely offered his time, his talents, and his heart. In doing so he helped preserve a sacred tradition while also nurturing connections to his students and others around him. His legacy will endure in the teachings he shared, the projects he helped sponsor, the students he trained, and the love he gave to his family and community.
